For me I think that it depends on what you doing. For editing post-production projects, the control surface streamlines work flow. Digidesign/Pro-Tools control surfaces are adequate but I think other manufacturers have better products for the project studio people like me and most of the students at Ai.

Digidesign is the beast of the industry now and is my favorite DAW for editing/mixing. The thing that has me not wanting to fully convert mentally is the fact that the 003 and command/8 Digidesign control surfaces force you to do virtually everything in the box. The M-Audio division offers an analogue type mixer but not compatible with LE.

I like the M-Audio Project I/O mix control surface as it offers some of the best of both the analogue and digital worlds. I love the Yamaha analogue looking mixer/ control surface for Cubase. The Ephonix control surface is an interesting HUI for Pro Tools and I am looking into testing one out at West L.A.

My opinion ?....Take over the world ? Probably. I am also the guy who loves vinyl, manual transmissions, and knobs and buttons. What do I know.

Nothing beats the real solid state logic
but i have to say the SSL 4 band parametric EQ comes pretty damn close

those are some sweet monitors
